Hello, all, and welcome to the first ever Grave Issues! In this series of blogs, blurbs, rants, and ramblings, I talk about basically whatever the heck I feel like. It could be editorials, it could be commentary, could be reviews, or it could be like this one – a State of the Site! This’ll go over immediate plans, thoughts, and musings related to what’s to come.

I’m shuffling some things up! See below for further details when we get to it, but, here’s what I have in mind!

• Karin vs. Saxton Hale
In writing that schedule, I shuffled things again four times.
You’ll notice Charlie vs. Skyrim is missing from here. No, it has NOT been cancelled. I just don’t currently have an idea where I’m gonna put it. More below. But first!
Final thoughts on Tifa vs. Chun-Li
It feels good. It feels damn good to finally finish this comic. And it didn’t feel like a chore! It didn’t feel like “doing it just to get it out of my way.” This comic was a labor of love and I’m ultimately happy with how it turned out. While I haven’t heard a LOT of feedback, to have finally finished it up is going to ultimately go down as a true accomplishment in my life. Reading it over from beginning to end put a smile on my face, and I’m proud of my efforts!
…Mostly.
Yes, I have now begun to NITPICK at my dear comic, and have gone over it one more time. You could say I patched my comic!
So, let’s go over the patch notes real quick.
• Fixed some word balloons.
• Added Ryoko and Maculley Calkin to their respective sides of the arena.
• Replaced the barbell in Round 1 to something a bit more impressive-looking!
• Added missing “adrenaline clouds” and “drunk bubbles” and “fight clouds” to the appropriate panels. (Note: I’m not adding the rage bubbles to that 12-in-1 panel fight between Tifa and Chun-Li because it honestly just didn’t look great.)
• Various other panel fixes.
So… where were the other four updates? Well, they were minor things I fixed in the past. Panel quality got fixed first, then some word balloons, then some spelling, then some missing characters. Hey, this is my baby! Even if every other comic I do after this ends up being funnier, better edited, and better-received (which I kinda hope is the case), this is my golden child! I’m gonna make sure it has its best look forward! That said, don’t expect further updates. I don’t wanna be fixing this thing for all time! Sometimes, you’ve gotta appreciate the warts and what warts are there are gonna be there. The stylus is down for it and I’m content with what it is.
Charlie vs. Skyrim will be pushed back
Alright, let’s get the bad out of the way. I’m pushing back Charlie vs. Skyrim. There’s some minor spoilers ahead, so, if you don’t want to be spoiled, jump to the next section.
Charlie vs. Skyrim was devised during the 2020 elections. As I was finishing up the game, I found a lot of parallels between… certain people and the Skyrim characters involved. I began devising it as a follow-up for Tifa vs. Chun-Li, which eventually led to me thinking up MORE comics to do. Needless to say, it’s pretty significant in that comic-making snowball rolling!
In the wake of the recent elections, no matter which side of the spectrum you fall on (heads up, I’m decidedly liberal/progressive), there’s a lot of anger, rage, and animosity going on, so, I think I need to hold this one back a bit… basically, I need to process a bit before diving into parodying things. Frankly, I didn’t think I’d be making this comic as an analogy to CURRENT events. Maybe it’s a little overly-sensitive of me, but the fact is that my heart just isn’t in it right now. But I promise, it’s going to be made! Just… not now.
That said, I think we still need to laugh! Now more than ever, in fact, and that’s what I’m going to try and help you do! Even in the face of the terrible, terrible things that we’re about to be faced with, an escape is still needed. I’m not against poking fun at current events, and I’m damn sure not taking Lord Dampnut off the table, but right now, my heart isn’t in it to work on Charlie’s first solo comic. So, I wanna work on something else than think about real world politics and keep the good times rolling.
Which brings us to something decidedly more fun to talk about!
The Next Comic...
So, I’m definitely lining up a few shorts and re-postings of old-school comics to fill the void, but with Charlie vs. Skyrim being nudged back, I have a couple of other comics I am working on. Not sure which one I want to FOCUS on, but I do want to give one my full attention instead of just bouncing around and seeing what speaks to me. Here’s the three I’m lining up!
SYNOPSIS: In her debut starring comic, Shantae watches a shooting star fall to the planet… only to find out that Samus and Ridley have brought their blood feud to Earth! With the Space Pirates running amok, and Samus getting ready to leave Earth the same way she leaves every other planet, can Shantae drive off the Space Pirates and keep Samus’, and her friend Plague Knight’s, most explosive tendencies in check?!
SYNOPSIS: Following the events of Tifa vs. Chun-Li, the Kanzuki Zaibatsu is now unconvinced of Karin’s status as its matriarch. A series of events results in her ending up in Stardew Valley to recoup her losses, meet the townsfolk, and go head-to-head with a totally-not-Walmart evil corporation! Will Karin pay off her debts? Will she find romance? Will she end up spending countless hours in repetition just to get that much more?
And, now being announced…!
SYNOPSIS: Making her long-overdue comic debut, Sheena is approached by a young Pokemon trainer named Nemona, who is seeking powerful trainers to test her battle prowess. Despite the confusion, Nemona is more than happy to go up against Sheena’s summon spirits! But as things escalate, will Grave City remain standing?
Come on, you didn’t think I was just gonna shelve my girl Sheena, did you? ;)
Actually, I had a lot of other plans for Sango and Sheena as I got deeper in the comics, but, truthfully, it won’t hurt things too much if I end up doing a Sheena comic or two. Yes, believe it or not, I DO plan on doing an overarching narrative! Don’t worry, you’ll be able to get the gist of it on an individual comic basis, at least I hope that’ll be the case. So, don’t worry if you skip any comics. It’ll just make me sad. Wait, what about those other comics?!
Right! So, even though Charlie vs. Skyrim is going to be pushed back, we have nine other comics just itching to get made! If this is going to work, though, I have to jump to what’s stoking my creative and comedic fires, so, the order is VERY MUCH going to be subject to change without reason.
An internal mental-order I’d thought about had things set up as Tifa vs. Chun-Li, Charlie vs. Skyrim, Shantae vs. Metroid, Karin vs. Stardew Valley, Morrigan Aensland’s May I Be Your Dungeon Master, The Curious Case of Senator Lockhart, Shantae vs. Garfield, Karin vs. Saxton Hale, Aerith vs. Flowey, and Tifa vs. Tech Support with the unannounced stuff coming after and other smaller comics interwoven in between. Well… I must’ve changed that lineup about a dozen times since I put that out, with only a couple comics NEEDING to come out before another. But beyond that, this whole lineup was always subject to change.
Most of these comics are waiting to be made when their number comes up, and I like a lot of the humor I have in mind for all of them, so, dedication to making them isn’t an issue. So, don’t fret! Those other comics will come out! Not necessarily in the above order, but they’re coming! ^_^
Will you do Tifa vs. Chun-Li 2?

No, but seriously, I do have ideas for Tifa vs. Chun-LI 2, but they’re nowhere near as refined or thought out as everything else I’ve got on the docket. I have nearly twenty other comics in mind, so the sequel to Tifa vs. Chun-Li is just not a pressing concern, especially after I JUST FINISHED THE FIRST ONE!!
Part of me kind of wants to do Tifa vs. Chun-Li one more time to end my run, but whether or not that’s the only sequel is up for debate. Just feels like it’d make a nice bookend, and I could always balk at that idea in the end.
But I DO have ideas for it. Just… not nearly as thorough ideas as the original.
Other Site Updates!
There’ll be more to come to this page while I work on the next comic, whichever one it’ll end up being. I’m going to add a multitude of directory pages, including a detailed credits page, an upcoming comics page, a direct comic link page, and more as I work out the kinks out of Dreamwidth's interface. I'm also gonna put up a links page and a few other pages to add to sort of a home page landing page that's going to be pinned to the top of this journal for newcomers. There's a lot I'm working out, and, hopefully, this page will be looking and working VERY well!
I won't commit to updates every specific day or in exact intervuls, as it'll only serve to burn me out. But we're gonna keep having fun here, and doing what I wished I did over a decade ago.

Anyway, I'd forgotten to actually swap out the panels for the ones with Ryoko and Culkin. It's ACTUALLY up now.
